Celebrate Women’s History Month!

Moms. Sisters. Grandmas. Wives. Aunts. Friends. Scientists. Teachers. Nurses. Engineers. Doctors. CEOs. Artists. These are all roles of just some of the millions of women that we celebrate during Women’s History Month.

Similar to Black History Month, Women’s History Month began as “Women’s History Week.” The first was issued by President Jimmy Carter in 1980 to coincide with the week of March 8th, International Women’s Day. Each following March had a designated “Women’s History Week” until the Women’s History Project petitioned Congress in 1987 to dedicate the entire month to Women’s history.

Every March since has celebrated women and their vital role in American history. The National Women’s History Alliance chooses a theme each year to represent the state of women and their contributions. The 2022 theme is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.”

“[the theme] is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.”

iWomanTV’s mission is to highlight female content creators and bring together a community of women who love to create and consume content made by them, about them, for everyone. In honor of Women’s History Month, the 5th Annual New York Women in Film and Television Online Shorts Festival is available to watch on iwoman.tv. There are over 70 short films to watch! You will not only get entertainment but will also be supporting a female content creator and her hard work.

Women have been ignored and written out of history since the beginning of time, and each March we look to remedy that and give women of the past, present, and future the recognition they deserve.
