In this week’s episode of Street Politicians we’re going to be going over ranked choice voting. What is it, and how does it work?
Ranked choice voting was elected by the people of NYC in 2019 but this is going to be the first time we’re seeing it in action. With elections right around the corner we need to figure this out now.
Tamika and Mysonne are joined by Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Reverend Mark Thompson to discuss the ins and outs of ranked choice voting. Public Advocate Williams discusses how it can strengthen a voters hand in terms of having more choices. Meanwhile Tamika questions how this will not disenfranchise New Yorkers who are less educated on this new system.
Reverend Mark Thompson preaches the importance of civic engagement on the local level and how ranked choice voting has potential for great good but also great mishap. All this and more on this weeks episode of Street Politicians, the place where the streets and politics meet!
