The truth is, there is no over-<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the-counter test to accurately measure when you are pushing the limit on <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">your stress level. Sure, there are watches and online surveys, and a heart <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stress test that doctors can perform to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">determin<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">e how your heart is holding <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">up. But unfortunately, stress itself can often go undetected, and you may not <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">realize you\u2019re pushing yourself too hard until something like your heart fights <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">back, and by that time it may be too late.<\/span><\/div><div class=\"textLayer\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">While there is no proof that stress leads to heart attacks, it certainly doesn\u2019t <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">help. According to the Mayo Clinic, stress that&#8217;s left unchecked can <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart, <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">disease, obesity, and diabetes, which can kill you. Heart disease is the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">leading cause of death among women in the United States, and if you\u2019re a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Black woman, you fare even worse when it comes to those statistics.<\/span><\/div><div class=\"textLayer\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">That is why as \u201cB<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">oss <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Chics\u201d it is critical that we get a handle on our stress <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">before our stress stresses us out!<\/span><\/div><div class=\"textLayer\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">April happens to be my <\/span><em><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">born<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> month, and to me it represents the beginning of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">new things &#8212; the arrival of spring, and an opportunity to begin anew. <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">However, it is also a time when I take a personal inventory of my own <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stressors; the people, places, and things that may not be contributing to my <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">happiness. The term \u201cspring cleaning\u201d doesn\u2019t only hold true for those <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">household items you have been needing to get rid of, spring cleaning can <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">also be a perfect opportunity to \u201cclear out\u201d all of the baggage you\u2019ve been <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">shouldering far too long at the expense of your mental, physical and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">emotional health.<\/span><\/div><div class=\"textLayer\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">As women, we are, by nature, the ultimate multitaskers. But that doesn\u2019t <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mean it\u2019s healthy to keep piling more and more tasks on your never-ending <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to-do list. At some point, if you want to live your life as the best possible <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">version of yourself, you are going to have to have a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">heart to heart <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with your <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stressors.<\/span><\/div><div class=\"textLayer\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">For years, when I was a news anchor and reporter running the streets of New <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">York City, chasing breaking news and some of the most depressing stories of <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the day, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">I found myself perpetually stressed out. Every day was another big story that<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">had to be told right away, under a tight deadline, and there was seldom time <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to eat or catch my breath. But that\u2019s when I learned the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">importance<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> of <\/span>mandating a wake-up routine that includes exercise, prayer and meditation.<\/div><\/div><div class=\"p-pdf_iframe__page\" aria-label=\"Page 2\" data-page-number=\"2\"><div class=\"textLayer\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Implementing this work-life balance in my own life has made a world of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">difference \u2014 not a single health condition to report!<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">So, like the hands of the daylight savings clock, let\u2019s spring forward together <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and develop new habits, new possibilities and a new attitude!<\/span><\/div><div class=\"textLayer\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">But if the thought of all this change stresses you out&#8230; just breathe.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When was the last time you did a stress check?
